The flange commonly known as a breast shield, is a funnel-shaped plastic or silicone piece that fits directly over your nipple to form a seal around your areola. It creates a vacuum that gently draws your nipple into the funnel for milk removal, depending on the size of your nipple, you may need an insert for a better fit.
Replace breast pump flanges every 6-12 months. You can extend the life of your flange by cleaning it thoroughly after each use. However, even a well-cared-for flange will need to be replaced after 12 months of use.

"I've been using the BabyBuddha for 5 months now and I have loved it more than my stationery pumps. I'm a 24" and it fits me best without the comfort cushion. Having many different suction power levels is great on the more sensitive days. I have repurchased pump parts directly from the website multiple times. My only issue is cleaning deep into the flange. The curve from the flange to the bottle is almost impossible to clean. Rinsing alone is not enough of course, but not even a straw cleaning brush can get the curve without scratching it up."

Silicone insert is too short
"I absolutely love this pump, BUT having elastic nipples, the silicone flange insert is too short. My nipples rub against where it ends in the flange and causes friction and my nipples to get a sore and red line! Please please make the silicone insert go further down into the flange and this would be the perfect breast pump!!"
